Mountain Sunrise is an experiment in painting on a ground. I have always painted on a white background but took Blairsville artist Al Garnto's advice and put down a thin layer of reddish-brown before adding color.

Painting on stretched canvas

This painting is done on stretched canvas. I paint beyond the edge, completely covering all sides with color. You can hang Mountain Sunrise without a frame for a minimalist look. When a painting is completed, I spray it lightly with clear, protective acrylic for a durable finish that will last for centuries. This original, one-of-a-kind painting is signed, numbered, dated, and titled on the back by the artist.

I added more dots to Mountain Sunrise which hopefully gives depth and more interest. By the way, adding that base layer at the start really made things easier. I never want to paint on white canvas again!
